About the author

Donna Ellis was born and raised on the North West Coast of Tasmania. She has many fond memories of her childhood – growing up on a farm in a close knit, loving family. Even in those early years she can recall her love for writing, with one of her earliest memories being reading her stories out at school assemblies.

Graduating as a Primary School teacher Donna has over 20 years experience – teaching in Victoria, Tasmania, London and Edinburgh. Throughout her teaching career, she has utilised her creative talents by writing many scripts for class plays and eisteddfod performances.

Donna is married, with three young children, and is currently teaching part time. She explains that children have been inspirational in providing many ideas and material from which to create stories. In 2007, she drew on her own experience as a mother and teacher to write, and self-publish, her first children’s picture book, The Thinking Cushion- illustrated by Peter Hiller.

Memory Flowers was developed after her own children began asking questions related to ‘death’. Having her close friend Philippa illustrate Memory Flowers, has made the completion of this project extra special for Donna.

CURRENT PROJECT: Working on a script for a mini musical - aimed for primary school aged children.
